JOB DETAILS:

Army forces use a wide array of weapon systems, such as tanks, fighting vehicles and self propelled artillery. Most of these weapon systems have electronic and mechanical components and systems that help locate targets, aim weapons and fire those weapons. It's the Armament Repairer's responsibility to keep these weapons operating properly.

The Armament Repairer is primarily responsible for supervising and performing maintenance and repairs on the mechanisms and systems of tank turrets, tank weapons, fighting vehicles, towed and self propelled artillery, small arms and other infantry weapons. Some of your duties as an Armament Repairer may include:

-Perform ordnance armament maintenance
-Assist in correcting malfunctions on the mechanisms/systems of tank turrets, armament weapons, and cupolas

Job training for an Armament Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and five weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are:

-Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts
-Use of electronic, electrical and mechanical test equipment
-Use of schematics, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams
-Operation, testing and maintenance of specific types of weapons systems
-Operation and maintenance of fire control systems on ships
 
Helpful skills:
-An interest in science and math
-An interest in working with electronic or electrical equipment
-An ability to do work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
-An interest in working with weapons
 
Advanced level Armament Repairers provide guidance, supervises and trains the other Soldiers within their same discipline. As an advanced level Armament Repairer, you may be involved in:

-Repair turret mechanisms and tank weapons
-Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions
-Provide technical advice and assist in assembling and disassembling the mechanisms and systems of turrets, cupolas, tank weapons and self-propelled artillery
-Troubleshoot fire control system components, towed artillery fire control systems, self-propelled artillery fire control systems, tank fire control systems, towed artillery armament systems
-Troubleshoot self-propelled artillery armament systems, fighting vehicle armament systems, tank armament systems, small arms weapons and classifying equipment
-Perform as a senior advisor and supervisor of ordnance maintenance and repair crews engaged in field and sustainment maintenance
