JOB DETAILS:

Army forces use a wide array of weapons, from small arms to field artillery to large ballistic missiles. Most of these weapons have mechanical components and systems that help aim and fire these weapons. It's the Small Arms/Artillery Repairer's responsibility to keep these weapons operating properly.

Some of your duties as a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer may include:

-Perform Field and Sustainment maintenance on small arms
-Perform Field and Sustainment maintenance infantry weapons
-Perform Field and Sustainment maintenance on towed artillery

Job training for a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 15 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are:

-Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts
-Use of electronic, electrical and mechanical test equipment
-Use of schematics, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams
-Operation, testing and maintenance of specific types of weapons systems
 
Helpful skills:
-An interest in science and math
-An interest in working with electronic or electrical equipment
-An ability to do work requiring accuracy and attention to detail
-An interest in working with weapons
 
Advanced level Small Arms/Artillery Repairers provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Small Arms/Artillery Repairer, you may be involved in:

-Diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions of small arms and other infantry weapons and towed artillery
-Provides technical guidance to the Soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties
